Deciding to open up to therapy can be a daunting decision (though many clients also find it hugely liberating once they do so!). Dr Walker endeavours to make the process welcoming, non-threatening and supportive, and he is happy to discuss his experience, style and approach further on the phone or via email to help you decide if he is the therapist for you.

The number of sessions you require will vary according to your therapeutic goals, the complexity and nature of your personal situation and your own commitment to between-session reflection and psychological work.

Typically, Tim works with clients for between 8 and 20 sessions, although some clients choose to work together for a few sessions then carry on working on their goals themselves, returning for less frequent review/consultancy sessions.

Initial sessions focus on creating a shared understanding of your current challenges, how they developed and what might be maintaining them. There will also be an emphasis on your goals for therapy and a discussion of which way of working might be most suitable for you. This can be a particularly useful structure for those clients who feel overwhelmed by their difficulties and a sense of ‘not knowing where to start’.

Following this initial assessment and goal-setting process, sessions will primarily focus on making progress towards your goals for therapy, and Tim will regularly seek feedback to ensure you feel progress is being made, and that your therapy is useful.

Sessions are typically once a week, and appointments are available at therapy rooms in London (Wimpole Street or The City) and Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

Tim’s focus is always on providing a safe, supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.
